River Protection: outbound rainwater

These questions look at how rainwater leaves the property and whether avoidable water is going into the sewer network. The final A–G River Protection rating is calculated from your answers.

Do you know whether your roof rainwater goes into a soakaway? If you are not sure, that is fine — answer as best you can and the certificate will estimate the route. If there is a soakaway, does it seem to be working properly? Where do the roof downpipes appear to go? If the downpipes go into a drain or gully, do you know what type of drain it is? If the downpipe goes into a water butt, where does the overflow go when it is full? Is anything slowing or reducing the flow from the roof before it reaches a drain? Does the property have a water butt connected to a downpipe? How many water butts? Does the property have a driveway or significant area of hard paving? Where does rainwater from that surface drain to?

Do you suspect, or have you been told, that any drain from this property is connected to the wrong pipe?

Reservoir Protection: property hardware

These questions assess the physical fittings and hardware in the property, not household behaviour.

How many toilets does the property have? How many have a modern dual-flush mechanism? Does the property have a bath? How many baths? Does the property have a shower? How many showers? How many are power showers or large rainfall-head showers? Are tap aerators fitted on kitchen and bathroom taps? Does the property have an outdoor tap? How many outdoor taps? Is a trigger nozzle or flow restrictor fitted to the hosepipe? Does the property have a washing machine? How many washing machines? Does the property have a dishwasher? How many dishwashers? Does the property have a swimming pool, hot tub or water feature requiring regular topping up? Which applies?
